fluffiness / loft / plumpability Explanation: Take your pick: http://www.proz.com/kudoz/german_to_english/manufacturing/15... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 33 mins (2010-11-10 23:59:57 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Relevant article here on 'fill power': http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fill_power Fill power is a measure of the loft or "fluffiness" of a down product that is loosely related to the insulating value of the down. The higher the fill power the more insulating air pockets the down has and the better insulating ability. Fill power ranges from about 175 cm³/g (300 in³/oz) for feathers to around 900 cm³/g for the highest quality down. Higher fill powers are associated with a larger percentage of down clusters and a larger average down cluster size. 'Bulkability' might be a possibility but not 'bulkiness' which of course refers to the inconvenience caused to a backpacker. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 35 mins (2010-11-11 00:02:06 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- loft: The thickness of an item, such as a down comforter, that is filled with compressible insulating material. http://www.thefreedictionary.com/loft http://www.answers.com/topic/loft |
