This is some kind of clothing. I encountered it in a Holocaust survivor's account of her imprisonment:

"Wir hatten ja keine Unterhosen, keine Strümpfe, keine Schuh, keine Unterhosen, kein Hemmet, bloß das leinene Sträflingskleid, haben wir angekriegt."
