German term or phrase: Lusthaus

Sentence: Bereits 1570 ließ Kaiser Maximilian in Pertisau ein ***Lusthaus*** samt Pferdestallungen für seine zahlreichen Jagdgäste errichten.

I have found German definitions of course (e.g. http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lusthaus) but I just cannot think of a neat English equivalent that does not sound "translated" or stilted. I would be very grateful for any ideas.

Explanation:
It doesn't necessarily include the Lust element, but it would definitely be used for hunting, which seems to have been the main purpose of this building, and since it was clearly intended to host a large number of guests we perhaps need something which conveys the size better than hunting lodge or summer house

The country retreat or residence in Pertisau was the Fürstenhaus, whereas the Lusthaus was a later addition

Helen Shiner: This just doesn't seem to be supported by architectural history as a term then in use. Just because it is given as a translation on a tourist website does not seem overly convincing. Orla's ref. nails it as as a building type.

Mit dem Begriff 'Maison de plaisance', zu deutsch 'Lusthaus', werden allgemein barocke Landschlösser bezeichnet, die in Größe, Bautypus und Nutzung jedoch stark variieren können. Die Definitionen des 17. und 18. Jahrhunderts, wie die von Augustin-Charles Daviler, bestimmten sie daher auch nicht als einen in Grund- und Aufriß festgelegten, formalen Typus, sondern in Abhängigkeit ihrer Funktion.

Als temporärer ländlicher Rückzugsort der wohlhabenden Gesellschaft steht die Maison de plaisance zwar in der Folge anderer Villeggiaturen. Im Gegensatz zur Renaissance-Villa diente sie jedoch weniger ökonomischen Zwecken als vielmehr dem Vergnügen: darin unterscheidet sie sich auch von anderen ländlichen Bauaufgaben wie dem bäuerlichen Gutshof oder dem Schloß als adeligem Hauptwohnsitz.

Auf das 'plaisir' beschränkt, wurde sie gleichwohl zum Prestigeobjekt privilegierter Schichten, an dem Macht und Status des Besitzers innerhalb der absolutistisch-hierarchischen Gesellschaft anschaulich werden sollten, und hatte so auch eine repräsentative Aufgabe.

The maison de plaisance was a type of informal villa in a park-like setting which had been defined by Jacques-François Blondel in his De la distribution des maisons de plaisance, 1737/1738.

The building type of “Maison de Plaisance” emerged around 1600 in Île-de-France, as urban upper classes of mainly noble backgrounds began to establish country residences just outside of cities and towns. Used only seasonally, and adjoined by flower gardens, these residences did not serve any economic purpose like the Italian Villa Rustica, but served the recreational needs of its owners.
