English translation: Playing the fish

German term or phrase: Drill
From an accident report (Swiss Hochdeutsch) on a friend who has back pain and needs help while on a fishing trip:

"Ebenfalls benötigte er unsere Hilfe beim Fischen, vor allem beim Drill, sowie beim landen der Fische am Ufer."

Is this Drill as in exercise or routine, or a Swiss version of 'Drillich'?

And Angeln + drill, of course. I disclaim all responsibility for whatever comes up under Angela/Drill ;-)

Notes to answerer
Asker: Many thanks, Edwin. I'm afraid I didn't get very far with Angela, she didn't know the drill.

  -> Phil, seriously, if David had googled it, I think he never would have asked the question. I posted my answer from a phone, which was painful enough, without the added annoyance of googling and copy/pasting on the same phone ;-) Links now added in note.

fighting the fish

Explanation:
This is the most common term in English to describe the process of tiring out the fish by letting out line and then reeling him back in.

I would translate the phrase between the commas as: "..., particularly while fighting the fish,..."

Example sentence(s):
  • Ziel des Drills ist es, den Fisch durch abwechselndes Schnurgeben und Heranpumpen zu ermüden, um ihn schließlich landen zu können.
