English translation: In Bern, step out your door and scale/hike up the Gurten, a popular excursion site...

German term or phrase: Hausberg
Berns Hausberg, der Gurten, ist ein beliebtes Ausflugsziel.

The Gurten is only about 880m high, at Berns doorstep to the south. Higher than a hill but lower than a mountain. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I've found one entry on proz translating it to "local mountain", but I'm not convinced for the reason stated above.

Bern's very own Gurten mountain

Explanation:
Could you use 'very own' to convey a sense of the locals' pride in 'their' mountain?

home mountain

Explanation:
This is a tricky term to translate. In German it has (to me, sort of) the same connotation as the "house wine" in a restaurant. It's the mountain that every local went up as a child with their parents, and probably cycles up every Sunday (a Radler at the Alm, then home). It's part of the view from town.

the peak of Bern

Explanation:
This would be another option ('The Gurten, the peak of Bern, ...') in analogy to, for instance, https://www.grousemountain.com (referred to as the 'Peak of Vancouver' - been there in 2004 and vividly recall the experience). But it's definitely a mountain at 880 metres, as others have said already.

Let us not make a mountain out of a mole-hill.

It is a mount or mound.

How about Gurten hillside (park) then?

The Gurten is a beautiful hillside park that takes you 864 meters above sea level for stunning views of the city, the Jura Mountains, and the distant Alps.

Asker: Hi Ramey. I like hiking, as in "an easy hike". Whole families including their granny do it every day. This granny did yesterday, it's worth the view over the Alps and the Jura. Enjoy the Sun-day!

Asker: That would be "grannies" doing it everyday!

We had some good suggestions last time. And if it's 880 metres high, it's definitely a mountain.

"A natural elevation of the earth's surface rising more or less abruptly to a summit, and attaining an altitude greater than that of a hill, usually greater than 2000 feet (610 meters)."
