" Ces usines qui s'élèvent dans la forêt de Bitche, conservèrent longtemps une simplicité primitive. On appelait ces petites verreries "Stützenhütten" ou "Blockhütten". On fixait verticalement en terre un tronc d'arbre à chacun des quatre angles, et les parois ou côtés se faisaient en bois de même pour la toiture, l'ensemble étant très misérable. Ces huttes permettaient d’abriter les hommes et leur bétail. "
