Schwarz dient immer wieder zur Abgrenzung – so zogen sich die Existenzialisten in der ersten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts vorwiegend schwarz an, und unter „schwarze Szene“ wurden verschiedene gesellschaftliche Strömungen aufgrund der vorherrschenden Kleiderfarbe am Ende des gleichen Jahrhunderts gefasst. Man denke an die Gothic-Liebhaber.
