Gedecktes Leder ist Nappaleder, das entsteht, indem man auf das mit Anilinfarben vorgefärbte Glattleder noch eine Farbschicht aufträgt. Sie wird auch Kopffärbung, Zurichtung oder Pigmentierung genannt und schützt das Leder vor Feuchtigkeit und Schmutz. Auf die Farbschicht wird noch eine Art Klarlack (Top Coat) aufgetragen. Er schützt die Farbe vor Abrieb und Abfärbung und bestimmt den Glanzgrad und den Griff, ohne die Lederoberfläche zu verschliessen. Ein verriebener Tropfen Wasser zieht nicht ins Leder ein, sondern perlt ab. Glatte Motorradleder, aber auch viele Freizeitjacken, Schuhe, Auto-, Möbelleder und Taschen aus Glattleder haben diese zusätzliche Farbschicht.
