Bei der Überwachung der Stufenschalterstellung gibt es drei mögliche Verfahren, welche im Stufenschalterschrank umgesetzt werden.
1. Widerstandsbahn
Hier wird eine Widerstandsbahn genutzt die auf die Welle des Stufenschalters aufgesetzt wird. Dieses Signal wird von einer speziell konfigurierten Klemme aufgenommen. Der entsprechende Kanal der Klemme ist dabei mit einem schwarzen Kästchen markiert. Da es sich bei der Widerstandsbahn um eine Zweileiterbeschaltung handelt
werden die beiden + Kontakte der Klemme direkt gebrückt.
