Hola.

Conozco el verbo BEI JEMANDEM EINDRUCK SCHINDEN, que puede traducirse como IMPRESIONAR A ALGUIEN o INTENTAR IMPRESIONAR a alguien. De ahí que asumo que EINDRUCKSCHINDEREI es un sustantivo derivado de esta perífrasis verbal.

Ahora bien, asumo que tiene cierta connotación despectiva por el contexto:

Die Fähigkeit, Manipulation und Eindruckschinderei zu benutzen, um den andren in die Beziehung zu „ ködern", indem man versucht so zu sein, wie der andere einen haben möchte (...)

Entiendo el sentido de la palabra. Sólo que estaba buscando en castellano alguna con el mismo tono despectivo y, de ser posible, no tener que recurrir a la verbalización, sino poder utilizar un sustantivo.

Prefiero la verbalización, pero el encargo del cliente me pide conservar el estilo nominal del original. :(

Explanation:
también preferería traducirlo con un verbo: intentar causar impresión, intentar deslumbrar. Pero si hace falta un sustantivo podría ser así, no sé si "autolucimiento" es muy correcto, pero se entiende.
