Το 1999, για πρώτη φορά στην τελευταία δεκαετία, η ΕΡΤ ΑΕ εμφανίζει στον ισολογισμό της μόλις 2,5 δις ***σωρευτικό χρέος***, σε σχέση με τα 38 δις που παρουσίαζε συνήθως, και παράλληλα εφαρμόζεται το σχέδιο εθελούσιας εξόδου υπαλλήλων. Το 2002, αντίθετα, εμφανίζεται ζημιογόνα κατά 4,2 εκατομμύρια ευρώ στη χρήση 1/7/2001 εως 30/6/2002 αντί κερδών 13,4 ευρώ που παρουσίασε στην προηγούμενη χρήση . Η αρνητική αυτή εξέλιξη οφείλεται στη στασιμότητα του κύκλου εργασιών (215 εκ. Ευρώ το 2002 έναντι 208,4 το 2001) και στη σημαντικη αύξηση του κόστους των πωλήσεων.
