Στις κατηγορίες προγραμμάτων που η δημόσια τηλεόραση πριν την έλευση του ανταγωνισμού συνήθιζε να ***δίνει μεγάλη βαρύτητα***, σύμφωνα με τα δεδομένα των δύο ερευνών έχουμε να παρατηρήσουμε ότι συνεχίζει να είναι πρώτη στα ποσοστά παρά το γεγονός ότι τα ιδιωτικά κανάλια ακολουθούν εντελώς διαφορετική τακτική. Συγκεκριμένα, για την κατηγορία των ντοκυμαντέρ, τα νούμερα της περιόδου 1984- 1986 είναι 7,3% και 4,8% αντίστοιχα για την ΕΤ1 και τη ΝΕΤ, ενώ για την περίοδο 2004- 2006 είναι 21,1% και 1,1%, σημειωτέον δε ότι στα ιδιωτικά κανάλια το μόνο που δεν έχει μηδενικό ποσοστό είναι το Alpha, που συγκεντρώνει 0,8%. Στα προγράμματα τεχνών και κουλτούρας, το 6,9% και το 7,1% της ΕΤ1 και της ΝΕΤ εξελίχθηκαν σε 11,7% και 1,4% αντίστοιχα, και το μόνο ιδιωτικό κανάλι που έχει ποσοστό άνω του μηδενός είναι το Mega με 0,2%. Τέλος, στην περίοδο 2004- 2006 μόνο η ΕΤ1 παρουσιάζει εκπαιδευτικά προγράμματα με 4% ποσοστό, ενώ στα προηγούμενα αποτελέσματα η ΕΤ1 συγκέντρωνε μερίδιο 17,4% και η ΝΕΤ 2,0%.
