Explanation:
A bit of a wild guess here, but Bordwell's book is called "Making Meaning: Inference and Rhetoric in the Interpretation of Cinema". Is it possible that "inference" has been translated by the author as "κριτικά επίπεδα"?

levels of criticism

Explanation:
That's what Borwell was talking about, according to what I've read: levels of film criticism.

NOTE: Sorry, not levels of "criticism", but levels of "critique".

Example sentence(s):
  • The left-wing tendency to politicize slapstick is a noteworthy facet of discourse on this genre, but it cannot be divorced from other levels of criticism.

neutral  nevipaul: This is obviously an absolutely correct translation, but I can't find Bordwell using it (or anything similar).

  -> Yeah, sorry; levels of "critique" it should be.
