מילה שלי זו מילה my word is my word Explanation: Given the possessive in the original, I would say that this is most appropriate. Examples at links. https://books.google.co.il/books?id=qFjkyGDZtaEC&pg=PA60&lpg=PA60&dq=%22my+word+is+my+word%22&source=bl&ots=k6iJrJX96P&sig=BZVtwU9i-Vensd5Oi Reference: http://courts.delaware.gov/opinions/download.aspx?ID=206970 |

A promise is a promise Explanation: I think this would be a more direct translation of this as it would be said in a conversation, for example, The other answers are not wrong but don't get at the idiomatic tone. "A promise is a promise" is a very common phrase in English. See various example in the URL below: https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&e... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 6 hrs (2015-06-20 13:51:47 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Another possibility would be: [My] word is [my] bond. This is also idiomatic in English and widely used in EnglishL https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&e... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 13 hrs (2015-06-20 20:36:53 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- I missed the "me"....It was early pre- coffee. in that case i would say: My word is my bond |

My word is my bond Explanation: This is the closest colloquial expression to that Hebrew phrase. The other suggestions seem to me too close to the Hebrew source, or not actually an existing English expression. "I'm a man of my word" is used but it reflects on the user rather than being a general adage. |
