Explanation:
לדעתי אין מנוס מלתרגם מילולית

תב"ן כולל גם תב"ן שלילי (כלא) שאינו יכול להיחשב כחופשה
גם דחיית שירות היא תב"ן וזה גם לא חופשה

There is such a thing in the army. What I believe I remember from when I served is that the difference is that during a תקופה בלתי נמנית, there are no benefits.

Notes to answerer
Asker: unpaid leave is חל"ת חופשה ללא תשלום does that apply to the militarty?

neutral  Daniel Rabinovich: This also includes imprisonment periods, so hardly a "leave"

neutral  gfrim: It's any period of time that one is in the army, that is not counted as part of his/her service. It is without pay or benefits, and can be "shlili" (i.e., in jail) or "chiyuvi" (a sanctioned extension of time for service). It is not necessarily a "leave".
