Maga a köszönés így önmagában nem utal haragos távozásra, ezt a szövegkörnyezet többi része kell, hogy érzékeltesse. Így az "alászolgája" angol fordítása is maradhat ugyanilyen semleges. See you later, bye, so long, etc. Eredetileg ez a köszönés kifejezetten tiszteletet fejezett ki, nem haragos távozást.

Az „Alászolgája” az „Alázatos szolgája” köszönés rövidült alakja. Latin eredetű, a „Servus humillimus” magyar változata. Régen a köszönés tükrözte a kommunikációt folytatók hierarchiáját, erre utal.
A szervusz köszönés a latin "servus humillimus domini" köszönésből rövidült. Ez annyit jelent "legalázatosabb szolgája az úrnak". Ebből a latin üdvözlési formából lett az "alázatos szolgája", s az "alászolgálja" köszönési mód.
Szervusz, szerbusz, szia: Ez a bizalmas köszönés a servus humillimus alakból rövidült, melynek eredeti jelentése: ’a legalázatosabb szolgád (vagyok)’.

The Hungarian etymological dictionary tells us a few things about szervusz (A magyar nyelv történeti-etimológiai szótára. 3. kot. O:-Zs. Budapest, 1976. pp. 744-745). It was originally a Latin form of commendation: servus humillimus, i.e. somebody offers himself to be the humblest servant of the other. It was used in the written language first, later, omitting humillimus, it became a word of greeting in the spoken language, too.
