half-German / half-Hungarian (in a Czech book) Explanation: This is a quote from the great book 'vejk' by Jaroslav Haek (Jaroslav Haek: Osudy dobrého vojáka vejka za světové války). Since I don't speak neither German nor Czech, I can only comment on the short Hungarian portion, which means, "(you/we) must not (do this)!" or "it must not be done" or "it is forbidden" - depending on the context. Unfortunately I only have the book in Hungarian and in English, but perhaps you could ask the Czech colleagues. HTH :) -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2004-03-06 03:50:13 (GMT) -------------------------------------------------- I forgot to say, the Hungarian part of your quote in question is \"nem szabad\" Reference: http://members.tripod.com/~Klempera/svejk21.htm |
