Hungarian term or phrase: kifeszít
Az atomon belül maradva most az elektromágneses kölcsönhatás veszi át a tér-idő kontinuum kifeszítésének szerepét.
A "kifeszítés" kifejezés több helen is szerepel tér szerkezetének kifeszítése, elektromágneses tér kifeszítése

Explanation:

neutral  Ildiko Santana: A "span" kiterjedés, kiterjesztés, kinyúlás (to extend across - 'Their empire once spanned several continents'). Szerintem a "kifeszít" jelentése itt egészen más, ennek leginkább a "stretch" felel meg (to enlarge/distend/extend/expand, as if by force).

-> Ugyanmár. Itt NEM az erővel való megnyújtás szinonimája a kifeszítés, hanem a tér(idő) kijelölésének. Ahogy a bázisvektorok kifeszítik a lineáris teret. A köznapi példák (empire) teljességgel irrelevánsak.

Explanation:
Szerintem itt erről van szó. Például:

"When R changes, all the spatial distances in the universe change in tandem; there is an overall expansion or contraction of space itself. This accounts for the observation that galaxies appear to be flying apart; the space between them is STRETCHING. The STRETCHING of space also accounts for the apparent paradox that two galaxies can be 40 billion light years apart, although they started from the same point 13.7 billion years ago and never moved faster than the speed of light."

"Einstein predicted that if two very massive bodies moved, they would cause 'ripples' in the space-time continuum; moreover, those ripples would propagate at the speed of light, alternately STRETCHING and squeezing space."

Attila szerint nem, de szerintem a megadott szövegkörnyezetben épp erre a "kifeszítésre" utalnak. Két további példa a témában:

The force of the solar wind STRETCHES the magnetic field of the side of Saturn facing away from the sun into a so-called magnetotail. The collapse of the magnetotail appears to kick off a process that causes the hot plasma bursts, which in turn inflate the magnetic field in the inner magnetosphere.
Scientists are still investigating what causes Saturn's magnetotail to collapse, but there are strong indications that cold, dense plasma originally from Saturn's moon Enceladus rotates with Saturn. Centrifugal forces STRETCH the magnetic field until part of the tail snaps back."

"If the Unified Theory is correct, it then logically follows from this that Einstein was wrong, for in an Einstein gravity field space becomes more STRETCHED OUT the closer you go to the center the field (...) The hypothesis of the ‘dark matter of the universe’ is based upon two fundamental premises. The first is that Einstein’s theory of ‘matter based gravity’ is correct (gravity is just caused by a mass of matter STRETCHING OUT ‘space-time.."

disagree  Attila Piróth: A stretch(ing) "nyújt(ás)" értelmű. A szövegbeli "kifeszít(és)" teljesen más fogalmat fed.

-> Köszi, de szerintem épp ezt a fogalmat fedik a fenti idézetek is.
