Hungarian term or phrase: "megtett út nélküli"
There has been a road accident with three vehicles involved. This sentence is part of the expert's opinion and contains the problematic phrase:
A .... vezetője azért nem tudott az előtte megállo, lelassuló jármű mögött megállni, mert irreálisan csökkent a féktávolsága azzal, hogy előtte ütkozés során megválosuló, "megtett út nélküli" sebességvesztés alakult ki.

Actually, I am doing this translation into Latvian, but I figured that it would be easier to find out an explanation in English. Your help is greatly appreciated!

Bár az instant szó valószínűleg jobban kifejezné a helyzet azonnali voltát, a megtett út nélküli hirtelen sebességvesztést, de úgyse az angolt szót fogod használni, szóval ötletszinten mindegy.

Explanation:
Ha igaz, hogy:
a sebesség a megtett út és az eltelt idő hányadosa,
azaz:
the speed can be calculated by determining the quotient of the difference of position over the difference in time,
akkor talán a "megtett út nélküli" angolul "without difference of position"

Viszont "an object with no movement at all has a zero speed", vagyis a magyar eredetivel talán van némi gond, nem? :) Hogyan veszíthet a sebességéből az a jármű, amely már álló helyzetben van?? Szerintem a sebességvesztés igenis út megtétele alatt következik be... Persze nem vagyok fizikus.
