Layer cake (Moscovis) Explanation: It's derived from the Dutch "Moscovis", which is spiced with cinnamon flavor. The cake is formed from compressed layers of various-flavored thin cakes. http://www.eonenet.com/members/cakesmalaysia/faq.php3 Layer cake is known as MOSCOVIS in Dutch, i.e. its origin. In Malay it is called "Kek Lapis". Layer Cake is baked with many thin layers make up to a variety of flavours. Steamed Moscovis Explanation: Moscovis = Layer cake with dried fruit On several recipes I read the cake named Moscovis is a layer cake, but what makes it different with other layer cakes is that it uses dried fruit (such as: prune, raisin) sprinkled in the dough. Kukus means 'steam' Cakes are mostly baked, but most bakers (I guess) lately came up with some new inventions, with the steaming technique. Such as for 'brownies', we know the name 'brownies kukus' (steamed brownies). Reference: http://elkaje.multiply.com/recipes/item/303/LAPIS_MANDARIN_O...
