Indonesian term or phrase: Tapi bila bersungguh-sungguh, masih ada satu dua orang pendekar tua yang tak bis
I have translated this as: But if one is earnest, there are still one or two old pendekar/ warriors who are firm with their students in remote villages including the kinds of students who are too lazy to train.
But it doesn't really make sense in English- can anyone help.
Terima Kasih.

English translation:But, if you search far and wide, you might find one or two old silat masters who would not...
Explanation:
People like Pak Mayan Surbakti are rare nowadays. But, if you search far and wide, you might find one or two old silat masters, with their disciples in remote areas, who would not care less to impose the rigorous martial art practice, even onto the lazy students.

Without knowing what is so special about Pa Mayan Surbakti, I could not guess, what tak bisa melenting is all about.

Could it be, no longer able to prance with elastic body
or, no longer mad with the students who do not practice

Hope, this can be of any help. :)

Thank you Naim- that is beginning to make more sense. This sentence is a bit strange even with more context. Terima kasih banyak

Explanation:
Hi Sarah,

It seems that the source sentence is not consistent with your translation. The cause for that is most likely that your source sentence is incomplete / cut before its meaning is conveyed in full (cut off at "bis", and this sentence makes no sense in Indonesian up to this point). Please give the entire target sentence. Additionally, it is probably better if you include the sentence before and after the target sentence, so its true sense and context can be determined accurately.

Asker: Hi Don, Thank you I hadn't realised that it was, as you say, incomplete. Ini dia: Orang-orang seperti Pa Mayan Surbakti mungkin sangat sulit ditemukan kini. Tapi bila bersungguh-sungguh, masih ada satu dua orang pendekar tua yang tak bisa melenting lagi bersama sejumlah murid mereka di kampung-kampung terpencil, termasuk murid-murid dari jenis yang malas berlatih.

Asker: This seems to be the answer that makes sense- that is similar to how I understood it, however, the next part was "Orang-orang seperti Pa Mayan Surbakti mungkin sangat sulit ditemukan kini. Tapi bila bersungguh-sungguh, masih ada satu dua orang pendekar tua yang tak bisa melenting lagi bersama sejumlah murid mereka di kampung-kampung terpencil, termasuk murid-murid dari jenis yang malas berlatih. However, if one searches them seriously, there remains one or two old warriors who cannot....

Explanation:
There must be a hidden phrase after "Tapi bila bersungguh-sungguh". It should be read "Tapi bila bersungguh-sungguh mencari orang-orang seperti Pa Mayan Surbakti" because the previous sentence is "Orang-orang seperti Pa Mayan Surbakti mungkin sangat sulit ditemukan kini".

Then, the translation of the clause "Tapi bila bersungguh-sungguh, masih ada satu dua orang pendekar tua yang tak bisa ...." should be "However, if one searches them seriously, there remains one or two old warriors who cannot ...."

Yet, if we look more closely, there are still one or two veteran masters not capable to ...

Explanation:

Pendekar is someone of high skill in martial arts. The closest English equivalent is a master.

Pendekar tua may refer to age as well as years of experience. I believe it refers more to the latter, wherefore the word veteran will suit the meaning.

Now, what about bersungguh-sungguh? It is an adverb, more or less seriously in English. What is it to be done seriously? The Indonesian text does not give an explicit verb, but by inferring from the previous sentence, it is clear that we have to be serious in finding --in looking for-- a master like Mr. Surbakti.
