New example in use: 'deadweight tonne' 12:24 Dec 16, 2011
In the Sydney Morning Herald edition of Friday, 16 Dec 2011, p. 22: "Chinese shipowners have called on Beijing to closely monitor safety standards on a new class of ship commissioned by Brazil's Vale, the world's largest iron ore miner by output. Vale is developing a fleet of 400,000-deadweight-tonne Valemax ships..." Erich suggested that 'tonnage' would suffice for 'carrying capacity', while I argued that the equivalent is 'deadweight tonnage' rather than merely 'tonnage'. This further supports my argument. |
