Italian term or phrase: stato di attenuazione
Hi everyone,

I'm working on translating an architect's portfolio from Italian into English, which involves a series of summaries of redevelopment works carried out on historic buildings. I'm stumped by the phrase "stato di attenuazione", and really can't understand what it means at all..! I'd be really grateful if anyone had any help. Here's the context:

"Il sistema di gestione e controllo degli impianti di condizionamento è centralizzato, e opera in base alla presenza di persone negli ambienti, lasciando libertà nella regolazione della temperatura e introducendo uno stato di attenuazione in assenza di occupanti"

I wondered whether it was trying to say that when people leave a room, "a constant state is maintained"..? But I'm really not sure, it might be saying the opposite..!

Thanks so much in advance for any help.

stato di attenuazione (ITA > ENG)
with a decreased output when no-one is present

Explanation:
This is why I generally avoid texts on architecture, which can be quite tough to translate! My advice would be to contact the client to understand the precise change that the system undegoes when the number of people in the room drops. It may be as simple as a drop in temperature - indeed I'm not sure that "decreased output" is correct, because I think you need to understand the precise change the system undergoes. But that's the meaning.
