seguire / seguono le sorti (re-/ins.) follow the fortunes (doctrine or clause) Explanation: The reinsurance treaty follows the hits made on the main insurance policy and the Lloyds names etc. go up or - more often than not - down with it. 'The follow-the-fortunes doctrine provides generally that a reinsurer must follow the underwriting fortunes of its reinsured and, therefore, is bound by the claims-handling decisions of its reinsured so long as there is no evidence of fraud, collusion with the insured, or bad faith. It is a burden-shifting doctrine that allows the reinsured the freedom of making good-faith claims decisions without the fear of having to relitigate those decisions with its reinsurer.' and are linked to and subject to the same conditions as Explanation: The non-statutory benefits depend on the existence of main benefits and are treated in the same way as them. You'll see in the example below (which I imagine you'll find further on in your text) that when the main benefits stop, so do the non-statutory benefits. What the Italian literally means is that A "follows the fate of" B. In one way this is more accurate, even though its sounds a bit odd, and you could use this option if you prefer!
