To 'apostille' > to apostillise Explanation: to affix with a notarial stamp in lieu > so *instead* of legalis/zation. Brooke's Notary: Sweet & Maxwell: apostiilisation, footnote 11-24n, though a well-known firm of Scrivener Notaries in London's West London - and who, after using the latter standard textbook for notarial exam finals, ought to know better - uses the idiomatic verb of 'apostilling'. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 33 minutes (2020-06-16 09:58:38 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- There seems to be some confusion over the process Trans-atlantically: it is notarial apostillis/zation in lieu / instead of the bother of consular or at-embassy legalis/zation. The UK authorities will not legalise a document certified by a UK solicitor working in Italy. If the UKLegalisation Office requires you to have a document certified before they will legalise it, you must use a UKsolicitor or notary working in the UK. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/notarial-and-documentary-service... Variant APOSTILLISED is very rare, and infact the verb 'to apostillise', though correct, is not used commonly -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2020-06-16 11:17:36 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- In brief, as I mentioned the Present Perfect 'apostilled' is pretty obvious that the verb 'to appostille' is encountered. However, by using the verb very few people would understand what you are precisely refering to. Therefore, it is the typology of your source text that will suggest you the right option. |
