The entire phrases are:

"i blocchi elementari con i quali si definiscono graficamente gli **schemi** in un diagramma",

and:

"elaborazione grafica degli **schemi** dei diagrammi".

The document is a user manual for a graphics interface program, explaining how the interface diagrams are put together. Can anyone help me with "schemi"? I'm a little confused as it is sometimes translated as "diagrams" but is clearly something different in this case.
