Italian to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Computers: Software / Multipack machine / Rockwell 5000 PLC tags
Italian term or phrase: Impulso
My client has some PLCs (Rockwell 5000) used in a RAMA RM 200 MW Multipack machine that are programmed in Italian. The tags are all highly telegraphic - mainly sequences of nouns with very few or no linking words.

One term that the client has queried is "Impulso": it appears many times in the text strings, and he and I are both curious as to whether it means anything other than simply "impulse". The following are some examples of strings in which it appears:

IMPULSO X RESET ALLARMI MACCHINA
MERKER DI APPOGGIO X IMPULSO DI RESET ALLARMI
MERKER DI APPOGGIO X IMPULSO DI SELEZIONE FUNZIONAMENTO AUTOMATICO
MERKER X IMPULSO DI PULSANTE POMPA VUOTO
MERKER X IMPULSO DI STOP POMPA VUOTO
MERKER DI APPOGGIO X IMPULSO DI CALIBRAZIONI OK X RESET MARCIA
MERKER X IMPULSO DI TIMER LAMPEGGIO 1 sec.
MERKER DI APPOGGIO X IMPULSO DI OFF SELEZIONE FUNZIONAMENTO AD IMPULSI

There are many other examples - this is just a small selection.

Any thoughts regarding the use/sense of "Impulso" in these strings would be appreciated.

impulse

Explanation:
They clearly just love the word, however, it can't really be anything else other than an electronic signal passing along a conductor or light along an optic fibre cable. Of course impulses can be called signals or switches or many other things I suppose depending on what they do.

On balance signal and switch might look a bit better than dozens of impulses.
