Italian term or phrase: aria di mare
Could someone tell me what "sfoglia di pomodoro e aria di mare" might be on a menu? I can't give more context because it appears exactly like that on a menu. Tomato and sea air? Any chefs out there?

English translation:sea flavours
Explanation:
I'd say something like "tomato and sea flavours puff pastry", you cannot be too specific if you don't have any context

(the taste of) sea air

Explanation:
As far as I know there is no well-known culinary creation by the name of "aria di mare".

I imagine this is from one of the high-end, Michelin-starred gastro-scientific type joints a' la Heston Blumenthal et al. (Check out the cryptic menu for The Fat Duck here: http://www.thefatduck.co.uk/The-Menus/Tasting-Menu/)

Ideally, therefore, I would ask the chef what exactly is going on here. If that is not possible, I think the translation can be just as mysterious and whimsical as the Italian, hence my literal suggestion:

"Pastry puff with tomato and the taste of sea air". (Yum.)

Seafood seasoning

Explanation:
Maybe this is a sort of seasoning with flavours from seafoods incorporated.
" "chiana chiana" (pomodoro, crudo di carne chianina battuta al coltello, salsa all'uovo e spumante, porcini crudi, scaglie di pecorino di miniera e gelatina di passito), "aria di mare" e altro ancora."

sea breeze

Explanation:
I agree with Lara and David that this most probablu referes to some kind of seafood seasoning.
This is just another option if you prefer to leave it a bit vague like it is in Italian ;-)
