Salumiere

Hi everybody! I need to translate the profession of who makes and sells cured meats (salumiere), not the shop (salumeria). I need to find a common English term. "Butcher" has not the exact meaning, and "delicatessen owner" refers to who sells deli, not specifically cured meats. Do you think that "charcutier" is quite common in English"? Thank you all!

Hi lja, Looked at the web site. However, my understanding is that we are looking for something in common usage in English and, one swallow doesn't make a spring (as they say). Still go with Deli! It's interesting that Cannon and Cannon use "Great British Cured Meat" as their strap line - they must worry that no-one understands the term Charcuterie

Hi, I should have been clearer - you wouldn't see something called a Charcuterie Shop. I agree there may be a charcuterie section within a Deli. I agree with Phil that more context is needed to make a definitive choice.

If this is a title of a website section you could leave it in Italian.

We need the fuller context. As there is no exact equivalent a correct choice of word can only now depend on the context of the word.

Could you give us the sentence containing the word? All of the options you've found are correct, but the choice may depend on the context. And does it actually refer to the person, or the shop?
