peer agreement (net): -1Work-study placement Explanation: Work-study placements are usually for clerical support in a department office, community service, lab assistants etc. Some research positions are offered as "university-based internships". Work Grant Explanation: Some examples: When I taught at the UBC in Vancouver I had both my own university students and, once, a person from another University on "Work/ing Grants" as my paid assistants. Once, at McMaster, we had a Visiting Professor who taught a term at our anthropology department being paid, though, not by us but by the Canada Concil (a CCHRCC Work Grant). Finally and personally, when I taught at the University of Tuscha in Italy, I had a "borsa di collaborazione" at the University of Amsterdam paid by Erazmus Programme of the UE. They called it a Teaching Grant, but teaching is work, ain't it? :) So basically, you work at the Department/Faculty/University but are paid not by them but by a grant provided by someone else, that's it. Finally, I strongly object to the term "placement" in the context of the Academe. The reasons are many, not least of which – a consideration of good taste. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 11 hrs (2013-10-19 09:59:08 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Collaborazione here is simply collaborating, that is working with or rather at smthg. Collaboratore in Italian is often used simply as "the one who works here but not necessarily an employee" -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 11 hrs (2013-10-19 10:02:28 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Besides, "borsa" here is not scolarship (borsa di studio) but a grant (borsa di collaborazione/ricerca, ecc). |
