Some background for others: Catholicism is an integral part of the Italian primary school curriculum, but parents can opt out and have their children leave the lesson, sit in class and do their homework (!) or presumably study something else (although I guess this alternative subject option would only be offered in schools with large numbers of students who opt out). |
