enrolled student Explanation: This seems to be a situation specific to music schools (conservatori) in Italy - you can either sit exams as a regular, enrolled student (like an undergraduate); or you can apply to sit exams as an "external" student - those who don't have the possibility to enrol at music school for whatever reason (distance, cost, perhaps they did not pass the audition...) but want a certificate to show their skills.
