Per la tensione di contatto ammissibile UTp la norma ne stabilisce il valore in relazione alla durata del guasto (tf) come da Tab.B3 della CEI 99-3; perché un impianto di terra sia ritenuto sicuro nei confronti di un guasto a terra in media tensione occorre che la tensione di contatto che si può stabilire in un punto qualsiasi dell’impianto di terra unico (media e bassa tensione) non superi la tensione di contatto ammissibile (la norma non considera più la tensione di passo), in pratica è sufficiente che la resistenza di terra soddisfi la condizione:
