One kind of fishing, many techniques Different techniques are used to harvest clams on Italy’s Adriatic coast. There are four different types of gear. The two used most often are the “rasca” and the “rusca”. The “rasca” is a sort of manual rake (rastrello) in the form of a parallelepiped, used to scrape the sea bed. It is used either in shallow water, where the fisherman drags it manually across the sand, or it is lowered into the water from small individual boats. The “rusca” is quite similar but larger and has a net; it is attached to the boat with chains. The mechanized dredge is made up of a sole plate cage measuring around 3 m by 1.5 m on which is placed a vibrating electrical motor. This gear is used for fishing in waters more than 2 or 3 m deep. The hydraulic dredge is also used. It is comparable to the mechanized version, and is equipped with a pump that dislodges molluscs from the seabed using water jets. The shellfish are brought on board either by hauling in the dredge or by pump. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 3 ore (2012-09-24 17:10:33 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- The link of first explanation which I forgot to post is the following: http://pianogestionelagunavenezia.net/pesca.html -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 3 ore (2012-09-24 17:19:58 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- “draga vibrante” (o "rastrello vibrante") = "vibrating" rake/dredge -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 8 giorni (2012-10-03 10:20:02 GMT) Post-grading -------------------------------------------------- Thanks to you Ian. |

Reference: http://dz1968.blogspot.co.uk/2011/06/night-tribe.html Reference information: Turbo-blower and vibrant are the tools for catching caparozzoli: the first one uses a jet of air pumped from surface with an auxiliary engine to raise sand as to fish shells with an iron structure connected to a network capable to scrape the seabed; the second one is an iron chest with a grill used as a sieve, dropped to the sea bed and made vibrate in order to select bivalves from the rest. Both methods are highly destructive because they catch up to 25 cm of substrate from the bottom and destroy nearly what they find when they pass over. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2012-09-24 15:50:53 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- can't guarantee the accuracy of the reference provided but it seems to fit. |

Reference: see Reference information: http://www.unesco.org/new/en/culture/themes/underwater-cultu... The impact of the fishing activity on the shipwrecks is similar to the impact of the agriculture on the land archaeological sites. The "rapido" and the "turbossofiante" are the tools used by the Adriatic fishing fleets. The first one is composed by four rectangular metal boxes with iron teeth on the bottom which are the entrance of the nets. These boxes are towed with chains and they drag on the sea floor impacting the sand for at least some centimeters deep. They are able to damage the obstacles and they are quite strong to move heavy objects for long distances. The "turbosoffiante" is the most destructive tool. The ship tows a big box, weighting 350 kg, for the fishing of the mussels which, thanks to a water dredger, excavates the seafloor making a trench two meters large and at least 30 cm deep. It is obvious that it destroys everything it meets. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 4 hrs (2012-09-24 17:58:58 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Fishing Across the Centuries: What Prospects for ... - AgEcon Search ageconsearch.umn.edu/bitstream/12207/1/wp060126.pdf File Format: PDF/Adobe Acrobat - Quick View 2006 - Cited by 4 - Related articles to a depth of 0.15 m;. • the hydraulic dredge ('draga idraulica', or 'turbosoffiante'): during the 1980s, and from 1990 to 1996 this was used illegally in the lagoon. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 4 hrs (2012-09-24 17:59:20 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- so hydraulic dredge based on the findings -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 4 hrs (2012-09-24 18:00:30 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Draga draga.redconceptual.com/ - Translate this page Used Dredgers and Dredging Equipment for Sale ...
