bolt throwers Explanation: these were ballisterii, operating something that worked like a catapult, but was technically a giant crossbow-like mechanism. If this is used in a modern context, it mgiht refer to the principal distinction of this branch of the Roman infantry, immunity (from prosecution for most crimes). |
