This is from a list of measures taken by a company to avoid work-related stress. I just cannot seem to make sense of this sentence:
"ridurre il carico di lavoro evitando che il ritmo di lavoro venga raggiunto senza essere determinato da cause esterne"
"reduce the workload avoiding an increase in the pace of work unless produced by external factors"??? Can 'raggiunto' be translated as 'increased'?
Any help much appreciated.

yes difficult Italian syntax...I would use 'increase' as you suggested and rephrase like this: "to reduce the workload producing an increase in the work pace only when (necessary) due to external factors"
