compensatory time Explanation: Comp Time Compensatory time—“comp time”—is the practice of giving employees time off instead of overtime. For example, if an administrative assistant works eight hours on a Saturday to help with a board retreat, she might be given Monday off. In general, comp time is not legal. Federal law safeguards against nonexempt employees being cheated out of overtime pay. If you have an employee who works an extra eight hours during a pay period, the employee should be paid time-and-a-half for those hours. What you can do instead is to give that person 12 hours off within the pay period. That way the pay will remain the same for the pay period, and you will have “compensated” him or her at time-and-a-half (12 hours off for eight hours extra work). For exempt staff, comp time doesn’t exist legally, but does exist as a common, informal practice within the nonprofit sector. For example, if a full-time, exempt employee works Saturday and Sunday at a conference, it might be understood that Monday and Tuesday can be taken off. Be sure that such “adjustments” take place within the pay period. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2014-03-28 11:54:27 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- e ci sono moltissime occorrenze su google, prova a cercare per esempio "compensatory time" + "shorter lunch break" -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2 hrs (2014-03-28 12:11:52 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- no compensatory time will be given/earned/gained/built up...
