Bus/Financial - Insurance
Italian term or phrase: viene estinta
This is a transcript where the witness is explaining the terms and arrangements of two insurance policies to the defense.

The first insurance policy is said to have been replaced, and he later confirms this saying "La polizza viene estinta nel settembre xxxx".

Should I understand this as to have simply 'expired' or more to be actively 'terminated'?

came to expire (to be discharged); (life policy) reached term

Explanation:
Would help to know what kind of insurance or (life, fire, marin) assurance is in point.

I cannot tell whether the policy has been 'superseded', as in the discussion entries, nor can give any refs. for 'reaching term' - a 'term' I encountered at a law firm on assignment of life policies and my inhouse out-of-English (into-French & Italian etc.) colleagues at a translation office in London often used to ask me.

Example sentence(s):
  • If you have a term policy, there will come a time that it will “expire”

was cancelled

Explanation:
I think the important word here is "viene". The use of this word implies that the policy was actively terminated by someone. If it had just expired automatically for any reason, the text would read: "Le polizza si estingue..."
