Arrgh! A pun to translate!

Context: this text is about gang-related behaviour, attributed to South American immigrants.

Perché il colore del Sudamerica in Italia non è solo quello della cronaca nera.

can anyone think of a way of rendering this pun? I don't think that we refer to crime pages as black pages...

Any thoughts?!

is not as black as it is painted by the media.

This needs a stroke of divine inspiration which has not been bestowed on me this morning!! Perhaps someone can put it more smoothly but I think "painting a black picture" or something along those lines will give the right idea.
