matrix - layout guide - format overview Explanation: The online Dict. WordReference doesn't help that much but one could conclude that it is a kind of guide to the layout - see below: timone [timone] (n) (m) (Naut) helm; (parte sommersa) rudder; (Aer) rudder; (di carro) shaft; (Naut) barra del ~, tiller; (Naut) ruota del ~, wheel; (anche) essere al ~, to be at the helm; (anche) prendere il ~, to take the helm; (Aer) ~ di direzione, rudder; (Aer) ~ di profondità, tail flap. |

NOTE Explanation: I don't have a clue as to the correct English term :-( and haven't been able to find anything between dictionaries and Web serch. In my experience, it was a large sheet of paper (more or less 2x an A1 sheet) we had up on the wall. It contained the mask for each page (boxes for articles, pictures, adds etc.) and each box was to be manually filled with notes of the relevant content as it was decided upon. BTW, there was also a synonim but I can't think of the word now, I only remember it was a French term. |

mock-up /copy layout /dummy layout Explanation: Probably "layout" is the closest term in English. What about "dummy layout"or "mock-up" though?? "Dummy -Diagram of a particular page layout and/or advertisement or of general appearance for a publication" " .......The mock-up has all the text and illustrations in the order and position that they will appear in the finished Journal" Reference: http://smalltownpress.net/articles/terms.htm Reference: http://learningmedia.co.nz/ftj/ftjdesigner.htm |
