Italian term or phrase: carenza di interesse
Hello. I am trying to translate the following phrase from a legal dispute. The context is that an insurance company was brought into suit for not paying damages on a theft claim, which, of course, they object to.

"Si eccepisce, in primo luogo, la nullità del contratto di assicurazione dedotto in giudizio per carenza di interesse all’assicurazione al capo di..."

I am having some difficulty with "carenza di interesse." So the insurance company here is asserting that the contract was null and void because the policy holder didn't file the claim in time?

Thank you kindly for your help!

agree  philgoddard: It's usually phrased as "lack of insurable interest". It means you can't sue the insurance company because you're not a party to the contract.
