Italian term or phrase: dare il mercato per fisso
Context: "Mi hanno colpito una certa lucidità di questo target evoluto, le opportunità ulteriori di crescita in Italia, la necessità che il settore investa di più su due terreni chiave: l’educazione e un’articolazione dell’offerta diversa. Non puoi dare il mercato per fisso, devi andare in conquista."

This is from a commentary on attitudes towards design, that will appear in a glossy magazine. It is followed by some examples of firms that have 'gone on the offensive' in their sales strategy.

Any suggestions are very welcome thanks, I'm guessing that the meaning is something along the lines of 'having a static position with regards the market' - but am hitting a block with rendering that down to something more appropriate in tone.

take the market for granted
Explanation:
The Italian means "assume that the market will remain unchanged", but this is a close English equivalent.
