end-to-end aortic interposition Explanation: See discussion - IMO, "termino-terminale" is not compatible with a "bypass" procedure. When bypassing a stretch of vasculature (or intestines, regarding spielenschach's references), the bypassed stretch is typically retained, and end-to-side anastomoses are created at the beginning and end of it. Maybe these surgeons are used to calling the vascular prostheses "bypass" (= the things, not only the procedures) as they are mostly used for creating bypasses, and here they inappropriately still use "bypass" even if the prosthesis is interposed. "Anastomosis" does not seem feasible as the intervention described covers a fairly large distance (involving the orifices of upper abdominal as well as renal arteries). While I am not a vascular surgeon, I really don't think that it is possible to cut out such a large stretch and then simply connect the ends without interposing a vascular prosthesis – there would be too much tension at the connection site, and the risk of prompt rupture. |
