"La scena è nel campo dei Madianiti vicino a Menfi e in Menfi. Per questo primo atto, si conserva, al Musée-Bibliotéque, un disegno acquerellato che rappresenta un rifugio nelle rocce.La tecnica grafica dell’artista è leggera e romantica, la natura incolta, la vegetazione nata fra le rocce indica un luogo deserto e solitario. Probabilmente si tratta di un bozzetto per il fondale davanti al quale le tende del campo erano costituite da quinte e spezzati.
