Italian term or phrase: rifili
"Nel caso in cui la riproduzione tipografica off-set o la stampa digitale
per piccolo e grande formato avvenga su fondi scuri o immagini
fotografiche che non garantiscono la massima visibilità del
Logo Marchio nella versione in positivo, il logo sarà interamente
bianco senza **rifili** o ombreggiature."

This comes from the Visual Identity Manual for a company. Any help appreciated!

trimming
Explanation:
Sarah, I think they are describing a sort of frame which normally surrounded the logo, and in the case when the printing process endangers the logo visibility, then the logo becomes entirely white, without trimming or shadows - that is a blank, white area.
I am trying to guess from the context, since they are not describing a technical process, but a choice.
Additional details or images further down the road might bring more light.

A kind of outline. There is a command in Adobe Photoshop called "trim", which selects (in fact, eliminates) only a thin border from the entire picture. Perhaps this explains their choice for this term.
In any case, you might look for further details! :)

Thank you for letting me know, Sarah. To tell you the truth, I was looking forward (read: curious) as to what you might have found in the end. But I thought you were up to your head in translation, so I did not interrupt!

disagree  Serban Oprescu: The color bleeding is an undesired, unintentional effect in printing works. In the original text, they are describing an intentional action affecting the entire logo area: it is set completely white. I think this is a different case.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thanks for this suggestion Serban. I'm not sure if the term refers to trimming (i.e. cropping?) or to some kind of outline
