novenario nine-syllable line Explanation: You could say "novenari (nine-syllable lines)", though I don't think the Italian word would really add anything. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2018-06-22 00:16:47 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Or enneasyllable, but very few people will understand this. http://www.dictionary.com/browse/enneasyllabic |

Reference: Novenario Reference information: The "Novenario" is characterized not only by the nine syllables, but by a peculiar rhythm, due to which syllables are stressed. In a sense, recalling the Latin and Greek metrics. Cfr. decasillabo and endecasillabo, and read Dante's opinion for rejecting (or harshly criticizing) the Novenario. In my opinion a translation such as "nine-syllable line (Novenario)" would add something, supplying a line for the reader to a more complete understanding of what remains an Italian composition.
