Once again, there are plenty of references to this but I can't find the English equivalent.

I googled a little bit and find the following explanation which cancel my previous option and amend it as follows:

Preview or anticipation of the first word/s of the following pages as footnote or in the end-notes or as post note (on the previous page) or as a foot note/at the end of a fascicle.

**Il richiamo altro non era se non l'anticipazione, al termine di un fascicolo, della prima parola (o delle prime parole) del fascicolo successivo. I più antichi correvano verticalmente al testo, mentre in epoca più recente andranno a sistemarsi lungo la linea orizzontale, parallela al rigo tipografico. Anche il richiamo si presentava come uno stratagemma per mantenere salda la sequenza degli elementi che componevano il libro, sia manoscritto sia tipografico.
Il Richiamo
**Il richiamo consiste nel riportare tutta o una parte della prima parola della pagina successiva in calce all'ultima riga della precedente: può trovarsi un richiamo per singola pagina , che viene stampato fuori gabbia in basso a destra della pagina al verso, **oppure un richiamo per fascicolo , per assicurarne l'ordinata composizione in fase di legatura**, con soltanto la prima parola del fascicolo successivo al verso dell'ultima carta di ciascun fascicolo. E' però necessario sottolineare come un sistema non escluda l'altro, anzi vi sono casi in cui è presente accanto al sistema del richiamo anche quello della segnatura, come per esempio per l' Hypnerotomachia Poliphili stampata a Venezia nel 1499 da Aldo Manuzio.
