I am translating part of a book on transactional analysis of schizophrenic patients. I am wondering whether anyone can help me with this phrase and whether there is a specific English phrase for for it, i.e. could this be translated as 'flood of thoughts' 'thought flooding'?

Here is some context: "L’occasione mancata di aver accesso ad esperienze traumatiche protocollari del paziente, attraverso cui leggere e talora interpretare i significati nascosti della sua crisi attuale, predispone il paziente psicotico ad una progressiva perdita di una narrativa coerente del proprio sé, fino al barrage violento del flusso ideico o all’insidioso insinuarsi del suo successivo de-lirare (dalla lingua latina delirāre, comp. di dē- ‘de-’ e un deriv. di līra ‘solco’), ovvero di quel peculiare modo di “uscire fuori dal solco” delle associazioni logico-razionali del proprio pensiero.
