I´m proofreading the English for a series of children's wildlife books in the IT>EN pair. In a page about the capybara, the text reads: "Trascorre lunghe ore in acqua e spesso attraversa il corso dei fiumi alla ricerca di fertili pascoli, nuotando in linea retta e mantenendo *una velocità regolare.*" The translator has rendered the phrase in question as [swimming] *at regular speed.* This sounds awkward in English....what is "regular" speed? Is there a better way to phrase this in English? Thanks in advance for your help!

I think "regolare" here refers to constant, i.e. as opposed to swimming in sprints, and then slowing down.

haha, great minds think alike :)

if it's a children's book and you think "constant" is too much a mouthful for them, you could put "a steady speed"
