Italian term or phrase: gogna
Is 'spectacle' the literal sense of 'gogna'?! The author has me lost here, not for the first time. Any help appreciated, not just with gogna, but on how, consequently, to translate up to 'show'.

context:

I love the way he starts off with "qui, come dovrebbe essere chiaro...". Long live self-irony

pillory just didn't sound right, somehow, but yes, it must be. No point hanging around for other answers.

pillory

Explanation:
"From pillory in the literal sense of a spectacle to that of its figurative sense (of being pilloried) in the media..."
Logically, what is not a literal meaning must be a figurative meaning. I would put in doubt the author's knowledge of English when he puts "show" in brackets.
I'll leave you to replace the "Da ... a" device with something more appropriate in English.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Cheers Jim. Giles got in first, but thanks for the suggestion - using pillory as a verb just hadn't occurred to me, but will work perfectly.

Asker: must admit, I had never really thought of it that way, but you're right. Sorry
